Khama Billiat: Here’s how much Sundowns are offering Chiefs for star player

In the ongoing transfer window, the local soccer scene has been abuzz with a potential return to Mamelodi Sundowns for Kaizer Chiefs star Khama Billiat.

The Zimbabwean international has been caught up in controversy, with speculation over what could perhaps be the biggest move since he left Chloorkop for Naturena a little over a year ago.

So far, at least one party involved has attempted to set the record straight regarding the saga. And it’s someone who’s likely to be directly involved in the negotiations, given his standing at his club.

The person in question is senior Sundowns official Yogesh Singh, who recently confirmed to Soccer Laduma that there are indeed talks being held with Kaizer Chiefs in an attempt to facilitate a move for Billiat.

“This is a sensitive matter, and we have mutual respect for Kaizer Chiefs – so I won’t be disclosing too much information. But what I can tell you is that we have been in ongoing discussions for some time now about Khama Billiat,” he told the publication.

Sundowns table hefty bid for Khama Billiat

With Kaizer Chiefs looking to rebuild after a shaky season, many of the club’s plans will have been around him, as he emerged as one of the few shining lights in a forgettable campaign last season.

This means that some silly money might have to change hands as Mamelodi Sundowns look to lure him back.

According to Soccer Laduma, the figure that has been placed on the table is R15 million, with a few Sundowns players offered to Amakhosi.

The bid comes just after Egyptian giants reportedly attempted to pry Billiat off Chiefs with a R27 million offer.

The player is said to have declined the move, stating that he had planned to continue playing in South Africa, where he has plied his trade since his Ajax Cape Town days.

However, Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp is convinced that the player will remain in Naturena, and has gone as far as saying he would not approve the transfer.

Billiat has been missing in action for the club since the start of the season. The reason given for his absence by his German mentor are that he had aggravated a knock picked up while on national duty at the recently-concluded Africa Cup of Nations.

Should he emerge from the last few weeks of the transfer window still a Kaizer Chiefs player, Billiat is well on track to feature in the home game against Supersport United. Protection Status
