High-flying Polokwane City welcome Bidvest Wits to Limpopo on Wednesday night, as they look to make it three wins from three to start the new PSL season at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.
Rise and Shine go into their third game of the campaign off the back of a pair of 1-0 victories so far.
Limpopo rivals Black Leopards were edged out on the opening weekend thanks to Sbusiso Mbonani’s only goal in the 44th minute.
And Mohammed Anas ensured they backed it up in dramatic style, netting in the third minute of added time to snatch three points at the Pietersburg Stadium.
Midfielder Edgar Manaka believes his side are in it for the long haul, saying: “Everything is falling into place. With the performance like this credit goes to the boys.
“We are taking it one game at a time. It is going to be a tough season.”
Wits have endured contrasting fortunes in their two PSL matches so far.
It started brightly for Gavin Hunt’s men thanks to a 3-0 win at AmaZulu with Terrence Dzvukamanja Deon Kavendji and Bafana Bafana captain Thulani Hlatshwayo all on target.
But Gerald Phiri’s goal just before half time snuffed out the Clever Boys’ winning start three days later, as Baroka FC raided the Bidvest Stadium for a 1-0 success.
Reflecting on the midweek disappointment, coach Hunt said: “The ball just didn’t fall for us, but we certainly could have tested the keeper much more. You get games like that.
“We earned our victory [at AmaZulu]. I think we should play away, we are better away anyway.”
Last season’s efforts against Wednesday’s hosts don’t bode well, with Polokwane securing a 1-0 win over the Clever Boys in Johannesburg before an entertaining 3-3 draw in the return fixture in January.
